The purpose of Ballet Detroit of Ann Arbor is to bring Ballet Detroit’s mission of producing well-trained, versatile dancers who can enter the professional dance world as proud representatives of Michigan to more children. The faculty have been trained in and teach the Vaganova curriculum, which has produced dancers such as Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhaild Baryshnikov, and Natalia Markarova. Controlled class sizes allow for individual and personalized attention for each dancer, multiple workshops with master teachers throughout the year provide unique training opportunities that most students only experience at summer intensive programs, and Sergey Rayevskiy is a strong advocate for his graduates to find professional opportunities as dancers throughout the world.
Students are not required to audition at Ballet Detroit of Ann Arbor. However, after a tentative registration based on age, they will be assessed in their first class and then placed in the appropriate level for their skill. This is to ensure that each dancer receives training that will help them develop mentally and physically at an appropriate pace. Once placed, tuition will be due for that level. All level placements are at the discretion of the Artistic Director or Assistant Artistic Director. Students ages 2-18 will be placed in a level, and adult students are welcome to take drop-in classes or buy a punch card to participate in either Level 4 or Level 5 ballet and pointe classes. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with questions you might have about the admissions process.
